George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)

Houston, Texas

Overall Rating:

Live Flight Tracking:       Flightaware

This airport used to have two areas in which you could watch the traffic and get some great angles for photography but in January 2003 they decided to close off access to both areas due to terrorism and/or criminal activity concerns.  2003 was a bad year for viewing aircraft at IAH.  But thanks to the persistence of Houston aviation enthusiasts the airport authority has decided to re-open the Lee Rd. parking lot.  This is great news!  From this area you are directly under or right beside the approach path and right across the street from runway 9/27 which is frequently used.

Most traffic at IAH is Continental with their 737s, 757s, and Continental Express jets but there is also a good mix of international and other flights.

Another area suitable for viewing and endorsed by the airport authority is the roof of the A/B Terminal Parking Garage which only gives you terrific views of that portion of the tarmac as well as traffic using the two north side runways, and of course you have to pay the parking fee to enter.

I'm giving IAH a rating of 3 because the Lee Rd. parking lot is an excellent area to watch aircraft.  There is still hope that the airport authority MIGHT attempt to create some sort of Observation Area at the end of Rankin Rd.
